Thank you for forwarding this email to friends, family and associates.
"...baby steps get on the elevator... baby steps get on the elevator... Ah, I'm on the elevator." In the movie "What About Bob?" starring Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss, Bill Murray plays a guy in need of some serious therapy by his psychiatrist (Richard Dreyfuss). The movie is worth seeing. Bill receives the advice by his psychiatrist to take things in baby steps. As you read through this newsletter I want you to think and do the same since some of you may begin to feel overwhelmed by the task at hand to loss excess weight, eat right and stay in shape. So my advice: take baby steps. Now on to the topic "Are you weight loss resistant?"

| Are you weight loss resistant?
Find out what causes weight loss resistance.
Is it possible that you can’t loss weight because your body is resistant to weight loss? Yes, it’s possible. I was reluctant to address this topic for fear of leading you down a path of external circumstances and excuses that could make you decide to give-up and just accept your weight as it is especially if changes need to be. Now for the real truth – as if there is fictional truth (?) which is sometimes that other ‘truth’ we talk ourselves into. The REAL truth is that it’s really not about weight loss at all. Yes! That’s right! It’s not about weight loss. Please always consult with your physician when planning to start an exercise or weight loss program.
The REAL truth is that it IS about your HEALTH and disease prevention. The REAL truth is IF you are leading a lifestyle that statistically puts you at risk of eventually contracting any one of the diseases that you are constantly warned about (diabetes, heart disease, cancer, stroke and others), you have put your life in the crosshairs of these diseases and, with moderate to high probability – there’s some math involved here(!) – you will become a casualty.
You will find research and other studies that deal with the question of WEIGHT LOSS RESISTANCE. Some will look at your genes to see if there are GENETIC reasons. According to the summary at the Weight Watchers website, 25 % to 40 % of genetics contribute to body fatness of individuals. In the same breath, Weight Watchers makes it very clear that there is NO DIRECT CORRELATION between obesity and genetics. Both inactivity and excessive eating are the causes.
The so-called METABOLIC SYNDROME is another possible cause of weight loss resistance. The term CARDIOMETABOLIC RISK is also used. The cardio metabolic risk factors are primarily overweight, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure. It’s very important for you to know if you have any of these risk factors and, if so, to take action to reduce or eliminate them. See American Diabetes Association for more information.
UNDERACTIVE THYROID can contribute to weight loss resistance which is a result of the production of thyroid hormones slowing or stopping altogether.
Your BODY TYPE can also be a factor to consider when determining if you are weight loss resistant. Where your fat collects on the body can play a role in weight loss resistance and health risks. If you store fat around your hips and thighs you have the PEAR body type which may be a visual indicator of estrogen imbalance. The fat which is collecting in the hips and thighs is more resistant to weight loss. See Weight Watchers for more.
APPLE body types (accumulated fat around in your abdominal area) have trouble with burning carbohydrates. This could be a result of excess insulin production. See American Diabetes Association.
There is a test question to ask yourself before you read on: Are you doing all that’s reasonably possible to improve your lifestyle and health? If your answer to the above question is NO, don’t fret! Prepare yourself for improvement by asking the follow-up questions: "What can I do to improve my health starting next week? Be specific. Your mind does not respond to generalities. So you need to start an exercise program or make some changes to your eating habits. Plan it, write it and do it! Overcome that inner great debate which goes like this: "Should I or shouldn’t I?" Of course you should because you can and you will and nothing is going to get in your way! It’s the right thing to do! It’s good for you! And it’s good to be and live being a positive role model for others in what you say and do!
STOP and start with one action item. EXAMPLES: one more 30 to 60 minute exercise session per week, one teaspoon less of sugar in my coffee, substitute that muffin for a whole grain cereal, pizza only once a week and only one slice, alcohol only once a week, dilute or eliminate the fruit juices, eliminate sodas and the list of action items that can be accomplishes one at a time goes on.

We are our primary source and resource of energy and health. Who is not looking for more energy in the workplace and at home? Who is not looking to be a better performer and gain greater recognition at work and at home? | Update on Lou and His Cancer Treatment
Lou is one of our Beach Boot Camp recruits that was diagnosed with stomach cancer and has been doing battle against it since January 2006. With his permission I am forwarding his update email:
Hey Bob, hope this find you doing well.
Just as an update, today is the halfway point for my radiation treatment. So far it has not drained my energy as much as I thought it would. Being in New York gives you a jolt of energy that I probably would not get in South Florida.
Doctors are pleased; had PET & CT scans a couple of weeks ago that did not show the cancer having metastasized. The radiation will be followed up with a couple more rounds of chemo, just to make sure that this "cancer-crap" (my pet name for it) is out of my system.
From the looks of your newsletter you are keeping very busy! Good luck with the all of the projects you have going on.
All the best,
Lou
